ABOUT THE AUTHOR

R J Carter grew up in a household without television, forcing him into books for entertainment. By age eight he had read the works of Louisa May Alcott, A A Milne and H G Wells. In 1996, he began taking notes on an idea gleaned from a drawing of a book in a stack of books that didn’t exist in an issue of Neil Gaiman’s Sandman comic. The notes lay dormant. They fermented. They germinated. And finally, much to Carter’s befuddlement, they had evolved into a story. ‘There will never be another Lewis Carroll,’ says Carter. ‘All we who emulate him can ever hope to accomplish is to serve, at worst, as a distorted looking-glass into his world and, at best, as guideposts to direct readers to explore his worlds for themselves.’
