TELOS DIGITAL EDITIONS

The following Telos titles are now available as Digital Download Editions for a number of formats:

TIME HUNTER

A range of high-quality original paperback novellas featuring the adventures in time of Honoré Lechasseur and Emily Blandish.
Part mystery, part detective story, part dark fantasy, part science fiction … these books are guaranteed to enthrall fans of good fiction everywhere, and are in the spirit of our acclaimed range of Doctor Who Novellas.
Time Hunter has been described by Jon Miller as “a range that puts the willies up people, but from behind the sofa, that this is the story of an enigmatic and distant figure, his allies and friends, and a world where you never know what’s going to happen next or where the characters journey will take you.
“Mix that with the character development that made the Virgin NAs so successful and kept Doctor Who alive in the 90s and you have the spirit and essential attraction of Doctor Who whilst still being a fresh, 21st century looking, self-sufficient, bold and innovative imaginative fiction range.”

HORROR NOVELS AND NOVELLAS

BLACK TIDE by Del Stone Jr
Miller, a university professor, and two of his students take a trip out to a spoil island in the middle of Santa Rosa Sound in the Florida Keys to study the effects of pollution on the flora and fauna. While they are there, a tide of black microbes is released into the river, and floods down and around them. They escape by burying themselves in the sand, but when they emerge, it is to a world which is strangely silent and changed.
Before long, burning figures are glimpsed along the distant banks, dragging themselves into the water. Then the attacks start. With daylight their only weapon, Miller realises that time is running out as an army of the living dead, intent on feasting on their flesh, is gathering in the surrounding waters.
A classic tale of horror in the great tradition of ‘Night of the Living Dead’.

CAPE WRATH by Paul Finch
Craeghatir: a lonely rock, far out on the northernmost tip of Britain; the closest point of land to it, the wild, storm-ravaged Cape Wrath.
To call this place bleak is the understatement of a lifetime. Huge cliffs dominate its shores, but within there are green tracks linking secret valleys where tumuli can be found, ancient megaliths and the bones of prehistoric mammals long grown over with moss.
The island is now uninhabited and in terms of this beauty and silence, it is an outstanding locale – though few sightseers ever venture there willingly, for Craeghatir has an evil reputation.
Professor Jo Mercy of Warwick University’s elite archaeological unit doesn’t believe the rumours and is keen to investigate a newly-discovered barrow on the island which might contain the remains of Ivar Ragnarsson, perhaps the most infamous of all Viking chieftains.
Ragnarsson was reputed to be berserkir – a warrior possessed with the wolf-spirit, whose madness carried him past all pain and reason in the heat of battle, and whose victims were deemed offerings to the wolf-god Fenrir. But Mercy and her team will find themselves faced with more than just the inhospitable environment on Craeghatir, as the spirit of Ragnarsson is disturbed and death and madness come to the island.

PRETTY YOUNG THINGS by Dominic McDonagh
What’s a girl to do these days? If she’s not worrying about her makeup or her dropdead outfit, it’s the total lack of anyone hot to pick up at the local nightclub. Someone strong and silent, someone good looking … someone who might not mind a bit of rough and tumble. And if he ends up being hung in the cellar with the other bloodcalves then that’s too bad … after all, a girl’s gotta drink.
Chelsea is a vampire, one of a nest of lesbian rave-bunny vampires, but when the nest picks her exboyfriend as their newest food source, she takes matters into her own hands …
A novella featuring sexy vampire girls, blood, horror, and enough catfights to sate even the most jaded of vampire lovers.
A debut novella from an impressive new talent.

IT LIVES AGAIN! AWARDS

We’re absolutely delighted to announce that Telos Publishing scooped the Silver Award in the Performing Arts category at ForeWord Magazine’s Book of the Year Awards, announced at BookExpo America in New York in April. The winning title was Axelle Carolyn’s It Lives Again!, an analysis of the modern horror film.

ForeWord Reviews’ Book of the Year Awards were established to bring increased attention to librarians and booksellers of the literary and graphic achievements of independent publishers and their authors. ForeWord is the only review trade journal devoted exclusively to books from independent houses.

Telos Publishing’s David J Howe commented on the award, saying, ‘We’re delighted that Axelle Carolyn’s book was considered worthy by the judges of this award. We tried to ensure that textually and visually it presented the best overview of the subject that it could, and it’s great that all the hard work has been recognised in this way.’

ForeWord’s founder and publisher, Victoria Sutherland, spoke at the awards ceremony: ‘This year more than ever before, we heard from the judges how great the finalist books were and how difficult it was to make their decisions,’ she said. ‘Despite this tough economy, independent publishers are producing some of the best books out there, and we are happy to honour them today.’

The award process brings readers, librarians, and booksellers together to select their top categories as well as choose the winning titles. Their decisions are based on editorial excellence, professional production, originality of the narrative, author credentials relative to the book, and the value the book adds to its genre.

ForeWord named 201 Book of the Year Award winners in 60 categories. These books, representing the best independently published works from 2009, were selected by a panel of librarian and bookseller judges.

The winners in the Performing Arts category can be found here:http://www.bookoftheyearawards.com/winners/2009/category/performing-arts-drama/

This is voted on again by members, and the winners are announced at the annual FantasyCon event, this year taking place in Nottingham in September.

Details of all the shortlisted titles can be found here:http://www.britishfantasysociety.org/

We at Telos are also delighted to be shortlisted in the Best Small Press category, alongside such marvellous presses as Screaming Dreams and Newcon Press.
